Junk Drumming

The Beat Project 2007

dustbinNKLAAP engaged The Beat Project to produce a series of Junk Drumming workshops aimed at young people 15 – 19 years through the four key areas of Gravesham, Dartford, Medway and Swale.

The workshops took place in Schools, Youth Centres, and Community Centres and with smaller community groups.

The aims of the Junk Drumming Projects are to raise awareness and educate young people regarding further learning and training opportunities in their local areas in all subjects but especially music and the arts. It enabled participants to build confidence and self esteem, and make new friends, whilst being involved in something new, interesting and unique.

Junk Drumming is an easy and exciting way of creating a great visual performance and using the right instruments (or junk) can sound unique and fresh. It’s all inexpensive and can stir your imagination as to what instruments you can create using household, industrial or just everyday junk!

A short film was created of using various elements and locations within the project areas.
